Start with a visit to Bibi Ka Maqbara, often referred to as the “Mini Taj Mahal,” built by Prince Azam Shah in memory of his mother. Admire its Mughal architecture, symmetrical gardens, and intricate marble work.
Continue to the Aurangabad Caves, a group of 6th–7th century rock-cut Buddhist caves featuring impressive sculptures and carvings that reflect early Buddhist art and architecture.
Later, visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, which houses a fascinating collection of artifacts, weapons, and exhibits related to the Maratha Empire and regional history.
Return to your hotel in the evening and relax after an insightful introduction to the region’s heritage. Overnight at hotel in Aurangabad.
Day 2: Aurangabad – Ajanta Caves – Aurangabad (210 km / 4–5 hrs one way)
After an early breakfast, embark on a full-day excursion to the world-renowned Ajanta Caves, located approximately 105 km from Aurangabad.
The Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, comprise around 30 rock-cut Buddhist caves dating from the 2nd century BCE to the 6th century CE. These caves are celebrated globally for their exquisite frescoes, detailed sculptures, and paintings that depict the life and teachings of Lord Buddha as well as ancient Indian culture.
As you walk through the horseshoe-shaped gorge overlooking the Waghora River, your guide will explain the significance of each cave, highlighting masterpieces such as Cave 1 and Cave 2 with their vibrant murals and intricate carvings.
The artistic brilliance of Ajanta lies not only in its architecture but also in its storytelling through paintings, making it one of the most important cultural sites in the world for history and art enthusiasts.
After exploring the caves, return to Aurangabad in the evening. Overnight at hotel in Aurangabad.
Day 3: Aurangabad – Ellora Caves – Daulatabad – Departure (40 km / 1–2 hrs total drive)
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed for a guided excursion to the magnificent Ellora Caves, located about 30 km from Aurangabad.
Ellora is another UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 34 rock-cut caves representing three major religions—Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism—symbolizing religious harmony in ancient India.
The highlight of Ellora is the awe-inspiring Kailasa Temple Ellora (Cave 16), the largest monolithic rock-cut temple in the world, carved entirely out of a single rock. Marvel at its scale, intricate carvings, and architectural precision, considered one of the greatest achievements in Indian rock-cut architecture.
