Embark on an enchanting journey through the Eastern Himalaya, a region celebrated for its majestic mountain views, peaceful monasteries, lush tea estates, and charming hill towns. Begin in Darjeeling, where the sunrise from Tiger Hill reveals stunning views of Kangchenjunga and, on clear days, the distant Everest range. Continue through Pelling, Gangtok, and Kalimpong, exploring sacred monasteries, waterfalls, viewpoints, and heritage landmarks that reflect the cultural richness of this beautiful region. With scenic drives, spiritual sites, and mountain serenity throughout, this itinerary offers a refreshing and unforgettable Himalayan experience.

 

Day 1: Bagdogra – Darjeeling (62 km / approx. 3 hrs drive)

Upon arrival at Bagdogra Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and driven to the charming hill station of Darjeeling. The road to Darjeeling winds through lush tea gardens, mountain slopes, and picturesque villages, offering beautiful views of the Eastern Himalaya along the way. After check-in at the hotel, take some time to relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air. In the evening, you may explore the Mall Road and local market area, where the atmosphere reflects Darjeeling’s colonial charm and vibrant hill-town life. Overnight at hotel in Darjeeling.

Day 2: Darjeeling Sightseeing

Start early with a visit to Tiger Hill, where the sunrise over Kangchenjunga and, on clear days, the distant Everest range creates a spectacular Himalayan panorama. On the way back, stop at Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop, two of Darjeeling’s most beloved landmarks. After breakfast, continue your sightseeing with visits to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Tenzing Rock, and the Ropeway viewpoint. Visit the Tibetan Refugee Centre and Happy Valley Tea Garden, where you can enjoy the beauty of Darjeeling’s famous tea estates from outside. Later, experience a toy train ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit nearby monasteries such as Choling and Darli. Evening is free for local shopping and leisure. Overnight at hotel in Darjeeling.

Day 3: Darjeeling – Pelling (75 km / approx. 3–4 hrs drive)

After breakfast, drive to Pelling, a peaceful hill destination known for its sweeping mountain views and spiritual heritage. The scenic route offers a refreshing journey through forests and quiet mountain landscapes. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax for a while. Later, begin your exploration with a visit to Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most respected monasteries in Sikkim. Continue to Rabdentse Ruins, the remains of the former capital of Sikkim, hidden within a beautiful forest setting. Visit Tashiding Monastery, an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhism, and proceed to Sanga Choeling Monastery. End the day at Rimbi Waterfalls, a calm and scenic spot perfect for enjoying the natural beauty of the region. Overnight at hotel in Pelling.

Day 4: Pelling – Gangtok (120 km / approx. 5 hrs drive)

After breakfast, continue your journey to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The drive passes through Temi, Taraku, Singtam, Rangpo, and Ranipool, with beautiful mountain scenery, river valleys, and tea gardens en route. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and unwind. The rest of the day is at leisure, allowing you to soak in the vibrant yet peaceful atmosphere of Gangtok. You may explore the local market or simply relax at the hotel after the scenic drive. Overnight at hotel in Gangtok.

Day 5: Gangtok Sightseeing

After breakfast, begin your sightseeing tour of Gangtok with a visit to Rumtek Monastery, one of the most significant Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Sikkim. Continue to Bakthang Waterfall, a scenic spot where the water flows from the Ratey Chu river, creating a calm and refreshing environment. Proceed to Tashi Viewpoint for panoramic views of the Himalayas, then visit Ganesh Tok, a small hilltop temple offering beautiful city and mountain views. Next, explore Enchey Monastery, a 200-year-old religious site with deep spiritual significance. Continue to the Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom to learn about Sikkim’s traditional crafts, and later enjoy some leisure time at the local market. Return to the hotel after a day of cultural and scenic exploration. Overnight at hotel in Gangtok.

Day 6: Gangtok – Kalimpong (75 km / approx. 3 hrs drive)

After breakfast, drive to Kalimpong, a serene hill town set above the Teesta River. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and begin your city exploration. Visit MacFarlane Memorial Church and Dr. Graham’s Homes, both reflecting the town’s colonial legacy and educational heritage. Continue to Durpin Monastery, which houses sacred Buddhist scriptures and offers wonderful views of the valley. Proceed to Deolo Park, one of the highest points in Kalimpong, known for its scenic beauty and wide mountain views. Also visit Thongsa Gompa, the oldest monastery in Kalimpong, and Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Gompa, admired for its Tibetan wall paintings and peaceful atmosphere. Return to the hotel for a restful overnight stay in Kalimpong.

Day 7: Kalimpong – Bagdogra (75 km / approx. 3 hrs drive)

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Bagdogra Airport for your onward journey. The return drive allows one last look at the serene mountain landscapes and river valleys of North Bengal and Sikkim. As your Eastern Himalaya journey comes to an end, you leave with cherished memories of snow peaks, monasteries, tea gardens, waterfalls, and the timeless charm of the Himalayas.
