Patan & Little Rann of Kutch
This short yet enriching journey from Ahmedabad combines Gujarat’s architectural heritage with its unique desert ecosystem. Begin with a visit to the beautifully sculpted Modhera Sun Temple, followed by the remarkable Rani ki Vav in Patan, known for its intricate carvings and historical significance. The journey then takes you to the Little Rann of Kutch, a unique landscape of salt flats and grasslands, home to the endangered Indian wild ass and numerous bird species. This tour offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and wildlife exploration.
Day 1: Drive from Ahmedabad – Modhera – Patan – Dasada (Approx. 260 km / 5–6 hrs)
After breakfast at the hotel, begin your journey from Ahmedabad and drive towards Modhera Sun Temple. Upon arrival, explore this magnificent 11th-century temple dedicated to the Sun God, Surya, renowned for its intricate carvings, grand step tank (Surya Kund), and architectural brilliance reflecting ancient Indian craftsmanship.
Continue your drive to Patan to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Rani ki Vav, an extraordinary stepwell adorned with detailed sculptures depicting mythological themes and divine figures. The structure is considered one of the finest examples of subterranean architecture in India.
After exploring Patan, proceed towards Dasada, located on the edge of the Little Rann of Kutch. Upon arrival, check into your eco-lodge or safari camp and relax amidst the tranquil surroundings. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge while soaking in the peaceful desert ambiance. Overnight at lodge in Dasada/Little Rann of Kutch.
Day 2: Little Rann of Kutch Safari and Drive to Ahmedabad (Approx. 100 km / 2–3 hrs)
Early morning, embark on an exciting wildlife safari in the Little Rann of Kutch, accompanied by an expert naturalist. Explore the vast salt marshes, grasslands, and desert terrain that form this unique ecosystem. Keep a lookout for the endangered Indian wild ass, as well as other wildlife such as desert foxes, nilgai, jackals, and a wide variety of migratory and resident bird species including flamingos, pelicans, and cranes.
After the safari, return to the lodge for breakfast and some relaxation. Later, check out and begin your drive back to Ahmedabad. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel or airport, concluding your memorable journey through Gujarat’s heritage and wilderness.
