This Tribal Tour is designed to provide an in-depth exploration of Eastern India’s indigenous cultures and landscapes. Starting from Bhubaneswar, the journey moves through Puri and coastal Odisha before entering the tribal belts of Rayagada, Jeypore, and Bastar. Travelers will witness vibrant weekly markets, interact with tribal communities, and explore traditional crafts and lifestyles. The itinerary also includes visits to temples, caves, waterfalls, and national parks, ensuring a balanced experience of culture and nature. The tour concludes in Raipur after offering a rare and authentic glimpse into India’s tribal heritage.

 

Day 1: Arrive in Bhubaneswar

Upon arrival in Bhubaneswar, meet our representative and transfer to the hotel for check-in. After freshening up, begin the city tour of Bhubaneswar, known for its temple heritage and classical architecture. Visit Lingaraj Temple, one of the city’s most important shrines, and continue to Mukteshwar Temple and Rajarani Temple. Later, explore the Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves, which reflect ancient Jain rock-cut traditions. In the afternoon, visit Dhauli Rock Edicts and the Peace Pagoda area, where Emperor Ashoka’s message of peace still resonates. Return to the hotel after sightseeing. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Bhubaneswar – Puri (65 km / approx. 2 hrs)

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and drive to Puri. En route visit the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its chariot-style architecture and intricate stone carvings. Continue to Pipili, famous for applique work, where local artisans display colorful handmade products. Visit Raghurajpur artisan village and observe traditional Pattachitra painting and other craft forms. Upon arrival in Puri, check in at the hotel and relax. In the evening, visit the surroundings of Jagannath Temple and enjoy the atmosphere of this sacred coastal town. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Puri

After breakfast, spend a relaxed day in Puri. You may begin the city tour with a visit to Puri Beach, where the golden shoreline and steady waves create a peaceful setting. Enjoy free time for a walk along the coast or simply relax and absorb the local rhythm of the city. Explore nearby markets for handicrafts, souvenirs, and coastal products. The day also gives you a chance to enjoy the traditional food and casual pace of Odisha’s seaside culture. Optional local sightseeing can be arranged as per interest. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Puri – Gopalpur (135 km / approx. 4 hrs)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Gopalpur. En route stop at Chilika Lake, one of Asia’s largest brackish water lagoons, known for birdlife and scenic beauty. If weather and conditions permit, enjoy a boat ride on the lake and observe the peaceful water landscape. Continue the drive through coastal and rural Odisha. Upon arrival in Gopalpur, check in at the hotel and rest. The evening is free to enjoy the calm beach environment. Overnight at hotel.

Day 5: Gopalpur – Rayagada (260 km / approx. 6–7 hrs)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Rayagada, entering the tribal region of southern Odisha. En route visit Taptapani, known for its natural hot sulphur springs and forested surroundings. Continue through scenic hills and small tribal settlements along the route. You may stop briefly to observe village life and the changing landscape as you move inland. On arrival in Rayagada, check in at the hotel and relax. The evening is at leisure to prepare for the tribal market experience ahead. Overnight at hotel.

Day 6: Rayagada – Dukum Weekly Market – Jhigidi – Rayagada

After breakfast, begin the excursion to Dukum, where the weekly Desia Kondh market is held on Tuesday. This is one of the key tribal market experiences of the route and offers a vivid look at local trade, produce, and traditional attire. Spend time observing the market atmosphere and the daily interactions among tribal communities. Later, continue to Jhigidi and visit the Dokra craft village, where artisans create metalware using age-old techniques. Interact with craftsmen and learn about the process behind this traditional art form. Return to Rayagada in the evening. Overnight at hotel.

Day 7: Rayagada – Chatikona Weekly Market – Jeypore

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Chatikona, where the weekly tribal market is held on Wednesday. The market is known for the presence of Dongria Kondh and Desia Kondh communities and offers an excellent opportunity to witness tribal life up close. Walk through the colorful market area and observe forest produce, handwoven goods, and everyday trading activities. Later, visit the Koraput Tribal Museum for a deeper understanding of local tribal history and traditions. Continue the drive to Jeypore and check in at the hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 8: Jeypore – Onukudelli Weekly Market – Lamtaput – Jeypore

After breakfast, proceed for an excursion to Onukudelli, where the weekly market operates on Thursday. This is one of the most striking tribal gatherings in the region and is especially known for the presence of the Bonda tribe. Spend time observing the market, local produce, ornaments, and the unique social atmosphere. Later, continue to Lamtaput village and visit the Gadaba tribal community, known for its traditional lifestyle and rural customs. Learn about village homes, local dress, and daily routines. Return to Jeypore in the evening. Overnight at hotel.

Day 9: Jeypore – Kunduli Weekly Market – Jagdalpur (200 km / approx. 5–6 hrs)

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Jagdalpur. En route visit Kunduli, where the weekly tribal market is held on Friday and is considered one of the major tribal trading points of the region. Observe the lively market atmosphere, with Paraja communities and other local groups coming together for trade and social exchange. Continue the drive through forested and hilly terrain towards Chhattisgarh. You may also stop at Kotapad weaving village to see traditional handloom work, depending on time. Proceed to Jagdalpur and check in at the hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10: Jagdalpur – Kanger Valley National Park – Jagdalpur

After breakfast, begin an excursion to Kanger Valley National Park, one of the most scenic natural highlights of the region. Explore the forest landscape, limestone formations, and rich biodiversity that make this park special. Visit the caves and natural viewpoints in and around the reserve, subject to accessibility and conditions. The park offers an excellent contrast to the tribal markets and village encounters of the previous days. Return to Jagdalpur for some free time in the evening. Overnight at hotel.

Day 11: Jagdalpur – Kanker (200 km / approx. 5 hrs)

After breakfast, visit the Anthropological Museum in Jagdalpur to better understand the tribal traditions of Bastar and adjoining regions. Later, drive to Kanker with en route visits to tribal settlements and local market areas around Lohandiguda. Depending on timing, you may also stop at Chitrakote Waterfall, one of the most impressive natural attractions in the region. Enjoy the changing landscape as you move from forest terrain to heritage surroundings. Upon arrival in Kanker, check in at the hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 12: Kanker – Raipur (130 km / approx. 3 hrs)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. En route explore heritage and cultural stops as time permits. Upon arrival, visit Dudhadhari Temple, known for its architecture and religious value. Continue to Purkhouti Muktangan, an open-air cultural complex that displays the art, crafts, and lifestyle of Chhattisgarh. You may also enjoy a short city tour of Raipur depending on arrival time. Check in at the hotel and relax. Overnight at hotel.

Day 13: Raipur Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to Raipur airport for your onward journey. The tour concludes with a rich collection of memories from tribal markets, village visits, temple towns, and natural landscapes. You will leave with a stronger understanding of the cultural diversity of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The journey offers rare access to communities and traditions that are often missed on regular tours.
